The Scottish Trauma Network and Fast Forward combine their expertise and experience to create What Happened to Jamie a printable comic strip resource, that can be used in hospital, school and youth work settings, that enables young people to avoid harm from risk-taking behaviour. Based on conversations with young people about the types of decisions they might face when they come into contact with drugs and alcohol, a fictional narrative was created about a young person called Jamie. The story explores some of the decisions that Jamie makes and encourages readers to think what they might have done differently to avoid the devastating injuries they experience after attending a party. The fantastically talented illustrator, Jules Scheele was commissioned to bring the story and characters to life. The printable resource offers advice for young people on how to keep safe by planning ahead. There is also a section for readers to personalise with their own ideas on how they can ensure that what happened to Jamie, doesn’t happen to them. 

• To share the experiences and thoughts of young people to inform and educate their peers 

• To create an easily printable black and white comic strip that engages young people and can be used in a variety of settings. 

• Reduction in the number of young people being admitted to the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital with injuries caused by accidents because of risk taking behaviour 

• Reduction in the number of young people being re-admitted to hospital with repeated injuries 

• Reduction in the number of young people experiencing minor/serious/life-changing injuries or even fatalities.

Score the folds with your finger or a pair of scissors

If you have a long-hand stapler, you can unfold the pages and staple them together on the fold (two staples work best), then fold the little zine up again.
